Check a licence
The state search covers licences for MD and DO doctors, nurses, physician assistants and pharmacies.
MD and DO are letters after a doctor’s name.
Use the job title and name you were given. Check whether the licence is current.
For a pharmacy in California, start with “Pharmacies.”
If it also makes sterile medicines, check “Sterile Compounding” too.
Sterile means free from living germs.
For a pharmacy doing that work in another state, choose “Non-Resident Sterile Compounding.”
As checked September 28, 2026, a pharmacy sending prescription medicine from another state needs a California nonresident pharmacy licence.
Nonresident means outside California. Ask that pharmacy for its California licence number. If you cannot match it in the search, ask the pharmacy board for help.
Read the California rules
For care by video, phone or an online form, start with the medical board’s overview. Use the law pages to read about agreeing to that care, the assessment before a prescription and medicine sent from another state.
Check how a medicine was made and approved
The US Food and Drug Administration is the FDA. These pages explain what its approval means and what it checks before a medicine reaches people.
Compounding prepares a medicine for a patient’s needs by making it or mixing it.
Bring the exact product name to the discussion. “Peptide” alone leaves too much unanswered.
Ask about Medicare coverage
Use the government’s coverage page when checking a quote. Ask the plan to confirm what applies to your own medicine and condition before counting on help with the bill.
Get help or raise a concern
Use the person’s job title to choose where to send a complaint. For a problem with the medicine, start with the pharmacy complaint link or the FDA’s reporting page.
Patients and health professionals can both use MedWatch.
